Please see the 2 attached explanatory images: These trees are started with a root cutting of standard Crataegus cuneata, onto which the 'Matsudaira' cultivar is meticulously grafted.  These trees usually have 4-11 grafts each.  The work is meticulous and time-consuming, but necessary.
